One of the reasons Papua New Guinea (PNG) is so loved by intrepid travellers is the ruggedness of the environment and that feeling it gives you of being the first person to discover it. In this way, PNG is truly magic. While there are a multitude of places to visit in PNG that will offer a complete authentic experience, Enga Province is one of the best places for natural beauty and it is virtually untouched by tourists.
The capital of Enga is Wabag. What was previously an old airstrip, is now the main street in the capital. The town itself is quite a busy and bustling little town that continues to expand along the Highlands Highway. Enga is quite unique compared to many other Provinces in PNG in that it is dominated by a single language. The province itself is named after the language, and Enga is also the name of the major ethnic group. Of course there are minor ethnic groups in the area with their own language but on the whole, Enga dominates. Unlike the rest of PNG, many people in Enga do not speak English or Pidgin as Enga has proved sufficient for communication.
